Roma -December 2022
Rachele Biancalani's Architecture and Interior Design Studio took care of the complete renovation project of a large apartment in the Monteverde district of Rome.
The watchword of this intervention was OPENING. The "before construction" living spaces were divided into many separate rooms which created unusable areas such as hallways or double corridors. What most stood out as dated was the positioning of the kitchen which was not only completely separated from the dining room, but also on the opposite side of the house; according to a completely outdated concept of living.
The couple of young doctors with two young daughters who had purchased the house needed 3 comfortable bedrooms and three bathrooms. He also wanted the living room to be a single, more usable space.
The spaces have been rationalized, creating fluid environments but with separate functions on 4 parallel lines in the dining area: the kitchen which extends against the wall adjacent to one of the 3 bathrooms, separated from the island by the dining table which in turn is parallel to the area conversation. The TV area, composed of a large linear sofa, is separated from the conversation area by a partition that hides the TV and its custom-made furniture such as the bookcases and shelves, all in white lacquered wood and brass.
The entrance area is no longer closed between walls, but opens onto the open space living room; to make it more functional, a large closet-wardrobe was created overlooking the entrance hidden by a flush-to-the-wall door without architraves covered with Trompe-l'oeil effect wallpaper. A bookcase in white wood, brass and glass acts as a filter between the entrance and the kitchen-dining area. The kitchen is developed by optimizing the wall with a double row of wall units and a large, fully equipped island.
The large dining table with a pseudo-elliptical shape has a steel base and a matt Calacatta marble-effect stoneware top. Next to the dining table a gas fireplace adds warmth to the room
The golden details of the metals characterize all furnishing accessories: from the armchairs to the poufs through to the shelf supports of the bookcases.
As regards the finishes, heat-treated bamboo parquet was chosen and installed throughout the house with the exception of the bathrooms, where stoneware is found both on the floor and as a covering. The wall painting is uniform throughout the house except for some walls that act as a backdrop: the headboard of the bed and the living room wall between the dining room and the TV area. The wallpaper covers the storage compartment adjacent to the entrance.
